Specialista Riconosciuto Europeo e Americano in Medicina Interna
Fabio si laurea e abilita in Medicina Veterinaria all’Università di Bari nel 2003. Dopo cinque anni di attività ambulatoriale in Italia e nel Regno Unito, nel 2008 Fabio svolge un internship rotazionale in medicina e chirurgia dei piccoli animali all’Università di Edimburgo. Dal 2009 al 2012 Fabio svolge la Residency (specializzazione) in Medicina Interna dei Piccoli Animali al Royal Veterinary College (RVC) di Londra. Nel 2012 è riconosciuto col titolo di Specialista in Medicina Interna dell’American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DipACVIM) seguito, nel 2014, dal titolo di Specialista dell’European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DipECVIM). Dal 2012 al 2013 Fabio svolge attività di ricerca in gastroenterologia al RVC di Londra. Dal 2013 fino a Luglio 2017 lavora come consulente specialista in medicina interna a Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists, un ospedale di referenza nel Sud Ovest dell’Inghilterra, dove svolge il duplice ruolo di Deputy Head del Dipartimento di Medicina Interna e Head della Feline Hyperthyroid Clinic, una clinica dedicata esclusivamente al trattamento dei gatti ipertiroidei con lo iodio radioattivo.
Dall’Agosto del 2017 Fabio si è unito alla famiglia dell’OVIPR come responsabile dell’Unità Operativa di Medicina Interna. Fabio è anche il Direttore del neonato ECVIM Residency Program in Medicina Interna dell’OVIPR e co-gestisce l’Internship Program rotazionale per la formazione specialistica di medici veterinari.
Dal 2019 Fabio è membro della Commissione di Esame dello European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Fabio è inoltre nel Consiglio Direttivo della Società Italiana di Medicina Interna Veterinaria.
Gli interessi professionali principali di Fabio includono la gastroenterologia, l’endoscopia diagnostica, l’endocrinologia, la ricerca clinica e la formazione professionale di giovani veterinari. Al di fuori del lavoro Fabio è un grande appassionato di sport (calcio e basketball), viaggi e cucina ed è proprietario di 2 bellissimi gatti di nome Napoleone e Regina. With a passion for animals and a heart dedicated to their well-being, Fabio graduated from the prestigious University of Bari, Italy in 2003. He spent 5 fruitful years working in small animal general practice, both in Italy and the UK, where he honed his skills and developed a deep connection with his patients.
In pursuit of excellence, Fabio embarked on a journey of continuous learning and professional growth. In 2009, he completed a rotating internship at the renowned Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Sciences in Edinburgh, Scotland. The thirst for knowledge led him to complete a 3-year residency program in small animal internal medicine at the prestigious Royal Veterinary College in London, England in 2012.
His dedication to advancing the field of veterinary medicine was recognized when he earned board-certified specialist titles in small animal internal medicine from both the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM) in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
A researcher at heart, Fabio delved into the fascinating world of genetics, completing a 1-year research master's degree at the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2014, where he focused on chronic enteropathy in German shepherd dogs.
An accomplished author and speaker, Fabio has shared his expertise in national and international peer-reviewed journals, and he is the proud author of the acclaimed textbook "Feline Gastroenterology," published by Edra in 2021.
As a thought leader in his field, Fabio has had the honor of speaking at numerous national and international continuing education events and courses, enlightening fellow professionals on the diverse facets of small animal gastroenterology and internal medicine.
Holding key positions in various prestigious organizations, Fabio serves as the Vice-President of the Italian Small Animal Internal Medicine Society and the European Society of Comparative Gastroenterology. He is also a valued member of the Companion Animal Fecal Microbiota Transplantation Consortium.
His passion for mentoring and shaping the future of veterinary medicine is evident through his role as a member of the ECVIM Exam Committee for Internal Medicine.
Fabio also takes pride in chairing the Anicura Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Medical Interest Groups, where he collaborates with like-minded experts to elevate the standard of veterinary care.
